How Sugar Rush Works
Sugar Rush is set in a pastel sweet shop world, with jelly sweets and gummy characters filling a large seven-by-seven grid of 49 positions.
Cluster Pays
There are no paylines. A win is formed when five or more matching symbols touch each other horizontally or vertically. Larger clusters pay more. See Cluster Pays Explained.
Tumbling Reels
After a win, the symbols in the winning cluster explode and new symbols drop in from above. If they form another cluster, that win is paid and the tumble continues. See Cascading Reels Explained.
Symbols
- Jelly sweets and gummy characters in different colours make up the paying symbols, with some worth more than others.
- The scatter is a rocket-shaped sweet. Three or more trigger free spins.
The game's paytable lists the value of each symbol for different cluster sizes.
Bonus Features
Multiplier Spots
Multiplier spots are the heart of Sugar Rush.
1. A spot is marked. When a winning symbol explodes, it leaves a mark on that position.
2. The spot becomes a multiplier. If another winning symbol explodes on a marked position, it becomes a 2x multiplier spot.
3. The multiplier doubles. Each further win on that spot doubles its value: 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x and up to a maximum of 128x.
4. Spots add together. If a winning cluster covers several multiplier spots, their values are added together and applied to that win.
In the base game, all marks and multiplier spots are cleared when the tumble sequence ends. Long tumble sequences are needed to build big multipliers, so large base-game multipliers are rare. See Slot Multipliers Explained.
Free Spins
Landing three or more scatters triggers free spins. The number of spins depends on how many scatters land:
| Scatters | Free spins |
|---|---|
| 3 | 10 |
| 4 | 12 |
| 5 | 15 |
| 6 | 20 |
| 7 | 30 |
The key difference in free spins is that marked positions and multiplier spots do not reset between spins. They stay on the grid for the whole round, so multipliers can keep building and apply to many later wins. This is where the game's biggest wins usually come from. Scatters can also land during free spins to retrigger the feature.
Bonus Buy
In some markets, players can pay 100 times their stake to go straight into free spins. This option is not available in every region, including the UK. Buying the bonus puts a large amount on one outcome. Read Slot Buy Features Explained before considering it.
RTP and Volatility
The standard RTP is 96.5%, but versions at 95.5% and 94.5% are also offered, and each casino chooses which one to use. Check the game's information screen to see the version you are playing. See Pokies RTP Explained.
Pragmatic Play rates Sugar Rush 5 out of 5 for volatility. In practice:
- Many spins produce no cluster at all, or a small win worth less than the stake
- Multiplier spots rarely build to high values in the base game
- A large part of the return depends on free spins, where spots persist
- Results can vary enormously between sessions
See Slot Volatility Explained and RTP vs Actual Slot Results.
Maximum Win
The maximum win is 5,000 times the stake. If total wins in a feature reach this cap, the feature ends. Wins of this size are extremely rare and should not be expected.
Gameplay, Design and Mobile Play
Sugar Rush has a soft, cartoon-style look with cheerful music and satisfying explosion animations. The large grid and multiplier spots can take a few spins to get used to, but the core idea is simple: build clusters and watch the spots grow. The game runs well on desktop and mobile, although the 49-position grid is more compact on small screens. A free-play demo is widely available. See Demo Slots Explained.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Clear cluster pays system on a large grid
- Multiplier spots add a visible sense of progress during tumbles
- Spots persist for the whole free spins round
- More scatters award more free spins
Cons
- Very high volatility, with long quiet spells common
- Base-game multipliers reset after each tumble sequence
- Lower RTP versions are offered at some casinos
- Bonus buy option, where available, increases the amount at risk
Who Might Like Sugar Rush?
Sugar Rush may appeal to players who enjoy cluster games and watching multipliers build across the grid, and who are comfortable with very uneven results. Players who prefer frequent, steady returns are likely to find it frustrating. Every spin is random, and the house edge applies throughout.
